Our mission is to create software which works as a tool to
enhance productivity or awareness.
In software, the simplest tools are the best. This is not an
obvious conclusion, and is contrary to the popular large-company
feature-release software syndrome. Tools with "too many"
features can be hard to learn and easy to misuse.
Similarly, APIs which are too broad, and "frameworks" which are
self-limiting both preclude the simple tools we seek.
Our mission is to create software which is truly usable by
individuals. This requires, above all else, simplicity.
Complexity is our enemy. "Simpler."
The first public QED release was September, 1999. A series of
commercial releases followed, with the final public version, 3.4,
released in May 2004. Since that time, Stan has gone on to other
things, but the release is being made available as free software
for the developer community.
